With football being one of the most-watched sports all over the world, Nigerians could have enjoyed watching loads of talented stars in the country’s national team. Nigeria has many players who are playing in other countries, some of these players got their citizenship by birth, which automatically makes them eligible for the country they are playing for.
Kylian Mbappe.
Kylian Mbappe could have chosen to play for Nigeria, but he currently plays for the France national team. Kylian has Nigerian roots which started from his father, Wilfred Mbappe had a Nigerian mother, and a Cameroonian father. Kylian’s Yoruba name is Adesanmi (The crown fits me)
Karim Adeyemi:
Adeyemi was born in Germany to a Nigerian father, but he is currently playing for the Germany national team. The Salzburg star has stormed the Champions League at the age of 18.
Manuel Akanji (Dortmund):
Manuel Obafemi Akanji was born in Switzerland to Nigerian parent, Abimbola Akanji and Isabel Akanji. He could have played for Nigeria, but he is now an important member of the Swiss national tea
Bukayo Saka:
Bukayo Ayoyinka Saka was born to Nigerian parents in England, he plays for Arsenal and the England national team. Saka scored his first national goal against Austria in June.
Ross Barkley:
Ross Barkley was born to a Nigerian man, Peter Effanga who left his mother when Barkley was young. Barkley could have chosen Nigeria, but he picked England where he was born. Ross picked his mother's surname, Diane Barkley.
Shola Shoretire:
Shola Shoretire was born in Manchester, and he plays for the Manchester United U23 team. Shoretire means “do your good deeds” in Yoruba, he has represented the England U23 team.
Tammy Abraham:
Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo Abraham has Urhobo roots, he shortened Tamaraebi to Tammy, and that is why he is called Tammy Abraham. He was born in England and he plays for the England national team
David Alaba:
David Olatokunbo Alaba was born in Austria to Nigerian parents, and he plays for the Austrian national team. Yoruba is his family’s main language.
Fikayo Tomori:
Oluwafikayo Oluwadamilola Tomori has Nigerian parents, but he chose the England national team because he was born there.
Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace):
Eberechi Eze has represented the England U23 team, he was born in Greenwich. He is named Eze, and it means “king” in Igbo.
